Cleveland-based KeyCorp is one of the nation’s largest bank-based financial services companies, with assets of approximately $98 billion. Key companies provide investment management, retail and commercial banking, consumer finance, and investment banking products & services to individuals and companies throughout the United States and, for certain businesses, internationally. The company’s businesses deliver their products and services through branch offices and a network of 1,485 ATMs.

The Challenge

Use existing staff to take full advantage of their knowledge of bank operations but with minimal data center migration experience.

Minimized-visibility project to the clients and the core business.

Organize the project so that the same staff could accomplish current duties and relocation duties.

Develop application knowledge lost due to the move to off-shore support, which had resulted in the loss of institutional knowledge of the applications and their dependencies.

The Solution

Supplemented the existing staff with a small team of data center migration/relocation experts.  This combined team conducted application-profiling interviews to build a body of knowledge on the current applications.  A dedicated planning staff was created which allowed technical resources to continue their normal activities.  The technical resources were used on an ad hoc basis.
